Follow your Dreams

Follow Your Dreams!

This card was so fun to create! I've used the March Seven Hills Crafts Challenge for inspiration. This months theme is Tic-Tac-Toe! I have chosen Animals, Watercolour and Bold Shades. Although it could also be Animals, Big Words/Letters and Die Cutting.

First of all let's talk about the background. This was created using a new technique that I have been seeing a lot of lately. It mixes two techniques, distress inking and watercoloring. I put some cling film across my worktop and put distress ink straight onto the cling film from the ink pad. The colours I used were 'Picked Raspberry', 'Peacock Feathers' and 'Mermaid Lagoon' which I think are nice bold shades. Next I added water on top of the ink; usually a spray bottle is used but I didn't have one to hand. Therefore, I ran a clean scrubbing brush under the tap and used my fingers to pull back the bristles to flick water onto the ink. I then put some 300gsm white cardstock face down onto the ink. As you can see it created this lovely marbled watercolour effect!

I then decided that this background is perfect for a unicorn! Dilemma... I didn't have a unicorn stamp...
Not a problem, I'll make one using the horse and party hat from Mama Elephant's Lunar Animals stamp set. I stamped two horses and cut one out to use as a mask. I then put the mask on top of the other stamped image and used washi tape to hold it down. I then inked up the party hat with Versafine Onyx Black ink and used a baby wipe to carefully rub out the dot on top of the party hat (to make it look more like a horn!) I then stamped the image onto the horses head and removed the mask. And there you have it! Our horse is now a unicorn!

I coloured in the unicorn in a rainbow of colours using my Tombow markers and went over the top with a Wink of Stella shimmer pen as all unicorns should be sparkly!

For the words I thought the Altenew Happy Dreams stamp set was perfect. I used the sentiment 'Follow Your Dreams' and then used the star stamp to add some more detail. My fiancĂ© thought of the idea to die cut some stars out of glitter cardstock to cover some of the stars to make the card sparkle even more. My star dies are by Xcut!

And now my card is complete! I love that I have been able to turn a horse stamp into something new using a little bit of imagination. I hope this inspires you to use your stamps in a different way!

As always, I purchase most of my products from Seven Hills Crafts as they have tonnes of beautiful products available and beautiful ideas on their blog. I got the lovely Lunar Animals stamp set and Happy Dreams from Seven Hills!

Happy March and Happy crafting!
